As a parent, it can be hard to manage the daily expectations and demands placed upon you. Our busy, hectic lives can be overwhelmed with stress and anxiety trying to meet these demands. Many times, as parents, we are wrapped up in our stress around being the best parent we can be, completing to-do lists filled with work and school schedules; we sometimes forget our children may be experiencing stressors of their own trying to navigate a new world of rules and learning.

You might have heard it is essential to help children create a mindful practice by slowing down and going within. But why is this important? It seems counter-intuitive to take time out of our schedules for this when there is so much to do. Yet their benefit far exceeds the sacrifice of time when implemented regularly.

If you are a parent on the fence about implementing regular mindful practices, we have compiled a short list of benefits of making mindfulness a daily practice.

1. They gain observational skills.

Helping our children tune in and notice the subtleties of both their inner and outer world sets them up for all

life has to offer. They can use skills like these to pick up on small cues in their environment to gather more information for problem-solving and respond calmly and effectively to new situations and challenges.

2. It builds self regulation skills.

Children experience so many different emotions during the day. And they are still learning how to identify,

understand and manage them! Recognizing and regulating their emotions takes time, but it is a life skill worth investing in. It helps develop resilience. Self-regulating emotions can help avoid or at least cope with stress, anxiety and depression later in life.

3. It gives them a chance to rest and relax.

Many parents/caregivers do not even realize our kids are often exhausted. They are constantly taking in

new information all the time. It's crucial for their learning and growth that they have the opportunity to regroup and give their brains and bodies time to renew. Rest shouldn't only be happening at night when they sleep.
